About the Ride
After graduating on May 16, 2009, from Humboldt State University in Arcata, California, with a major in Forestry and a Fisheries minor, Eric McDermott will embark on the journey of a lifetime: a bike ride from Lincoln City, Oregon to Lubec, Maine to raise money for MS (multiple sclerosis).
WHY MS? Eric is riding in honor of his two aunts, Cindie Tegner of Corvallis, Oregon and Christine Fischer of Visalia, California, both of whom developed MS 22 years ago. Money is vital to continue the search towards treatments and a cure. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if not only Cindie and Christine but all those with MS could count on an active lifestyle like Eric’s?
Eric’s goal is to raise $50,000. Eric is not doing this as part of an organized group ride. He is riding solo. Eric’s parents will be his “sag wagon” which means they will provide his food and lodging along the way (and his mother can make sure he is okay!). Eric has chosen a northern route which will take him thru 15 states: Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Thank you and all your friends for supporting Eric’s efforts. ALL monies donated go directly to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society - none of the monies go to fund the ride.
Eric began his ride on May 24, 2009 and plans to complete the ride in early July. You can track his progress on his blog.
Photos of the trip can be seen here and as a side note if you have anything specific that you would like to say or ask of Eric as he travels and would like a response, please feel free to send him an e-mail at scubacire2@hotmail.com.
